Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

 What is OCD?y31

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder marked by obsessive thoughts and/or compulsive behaviors. Obsessions are typically intrusive, unwanted and recurring thoughts that lead to increased anxiety. Compulsions are ritualized acts that one feels driven to carry out to reduce anxiety, usually caused by an obsession. The vicious cycle of obsessive and compulsive rituals can consume a person and significantly interfere with the quality of their life.

Do you have OCD?

The Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) is the widely preferred tool to measure the severity of OCD symptoms. When you visit your OCD therapist for the first time, s/he will have you complete it as part of the assessment.
